Not having grown up in the Erie area, it has taken me a
while to find all the really fun things that the locals take for granted. Where do I go, when I want to get away from the Inn and take a walk (or a run)..and I only have an hour or two?
There are two absolutely beautiful spots that are my favorites. The first is Eaton Reservoir. It is a five minute drive there from the Inn. There is a 3 mile trail around the
reservoir (where you can also kayak or canoe), with some side trails, if you are into trail running. There is parking (and a bathroom!). I rarely see more than a couple of other people, either fishing, or walking their dogs, and I just love looking at the beaver dam, the hawk nest and just center myself. And in the winter, you can either snow shoe or cross country ski!
The second is 20 Mile Creek Conservation Park. For guests, who want a beach that is closer than Presque Isle State Park, there is one that is closer to the inn…but this one is where 20 Mile Creek empties into the lake. The whole area is apparently great for fishing, but I just like walking along the beach, and into the woods. There are some huge old trees along the walking path, and the water is surprisingly clear in the creek and the lake.
See me for directions to either of these..and let me know what you think!
