Earlier this year, I checked out a section of Wintergreen Gorge in Harborcreek PA–hiking at this time of year, but it looks like it would be great for biking as well. We started in the parking lot at Penn State Behrends but the main trail starts at a parking lot off Cooper Road, east of Four Mile Creek. Parking is definitely easier here on the weekends or when school is not in session.
It is a paved path, that runs along some of the athletic fields for the ollege, and includes some great views of rushing water, forest…and a marked course for disk golf or Frisbee golf. There is a bridge to cross the highway, and the trail runs all the way to the Bayfront.
Total distance to and back is about 2.5miles. Along the way you will also pass the Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery…and legend has it that there are ghosts of a boy and his dog that are sighted on the trail in this area.
When the weather is a bit warmer, I will definitely go back and check out the entire trail, from this blog it looks like on a warm day in the summer, this might be a perfect excursion to try! Just one more thing to add to your list when you are coming to stay at Grape Arbor!
