Earlier this year, a sweet, slightly nervous guest confided in me that she and her companion had never stayed in a Bed and Breakfast before. She wanted to know how to be a good guest while staying with us at Grape Arbor B and B. I’ve heard that same thing from other guests from time to time. Now more than ever, we want to assure all our guests and potential guests hat we try to make our guests safe and comfortable.
This is a strange new world that we live in. These buildings are our home! So that means we care that everything is as clean as can be both for you the guest and for usI
Our number one priority we have (and I am confident I can speak on behalf of Innkeepers in general on this) is that YOU relax and make yourself comfortable. Our first priority is the guest experience, ensuring our guests feel welcome, comfortable, happy and safe. That being said, B and B Newbies and others, yes indeed, there are some things you can do to be a great guest. So, if you will, here are some things you can consider…
Communicate with your Innkeeper in advance of dietary restrictions and food allergies. We will happily accommodate these things! At Grape Arbor it is very difficult when a four course gourmet breakfast has been well planned and we find out about a conflict right as we are serving the meal.
Tell your Innkeeper in advance if you have special requests, room preferences or concerns. You will find yourself happily accommodated!
Celebrating?? Let your Innkeeper help you plan as long as they know, yep you got it, in advance.
Your Arrival and Departure
It is very important to honor the arrival and departure times. We know, however, there can be uncertainties in travel and things happen. Right now we have implemented “contactless check ins.” This means (sadly) that we aren’t here to greet you and show you to your room…but we ARE on site. You will get an email with a check in form to complete, and once we receive it, we will send you instructions on where to park, and where to come in and pick up keys and directions to your room. Any time after 3pm!
Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate early check ins right now. Our cleaning protocols have increased geometrically, and we need every minute to clean rooms and get the property ready for your stay.
Breakfast is a much loved perk of the B and B experience! We still have our famous four course breakfast available, but on that check in form, we ask you to choose one of three options–breakfast at 8am, breakfast at 9:30am or a to-go box with continental breakfast dropped outside your door.
So you can choose! Our breakfast tables are set up for two, and are more than 6 feet apart. We are only serving breakfast indoors at this time.
Innkeepers don’t shame or blame guests when accidents happen (though I wouldn’t rule out getting teased a bit all in good humor) because accidents happen. If you spill something or accidentally break something be up front and honest so it can be rectified immediately. Especially if it is red wine – the sooner the better.
The most helpful thing…
When you’ve had the lovely B and B experience, you may find you want to leave a note of thanks. You may even want to leave a tip for the staff in your room when you leave. That is wonderful! But the number one best guest expression that’s meaningful and MOST helpful to your B and B is an online review with a few details telling what you enjoyed the most.
The BEST Bed and Breakfast guest ever is YOU! All that’s needed is basic communication and common courtesy which you have in spades! So pack up and come because we miss you and can’t wait to See You Soon!
