We have a number of recipes for baked doughnuts here at Grape Arbor; sort of one for every season. This one is a summer lemon doughnut. Baked doughnuts are great because they are quick to make, don't take long to cook, and are super tasty. And because they aren't fried, maybe you can eat two! This particular recipe was based on a copycat of the Starbucks lemon loaf. A lemon doughnut has to have good…... view full recipe
Let's talk Apple Turnovers. At Grape Arbor Bed and Breakfast, we love this simple recipe using puff pastry sheets from your grocers freezer and a easy to make apple pie filling and glaze. We guarantee you, too, will love the results when you bite into that flaky crust sweetened with a touch of glaze which then gives way to the treasure inside - warm, cinnamon spiced apples. This is one reason why Apple Turnovers are…... view full recipe
This easy gourmet breakfast dish features incredible, edible eggs with sausage, potatoes, veggies, and cheese. Guests and staff love it. It is delicious in taste and texture and easy to make, nutritionally dense and gluten free. We love busting into that sunny, creamy yolk and having it run all over and sauce the entire dish. The rich, creamy egg is center stage on our Breakfast Gratin. Are you a fan of the common egg? Eggs…... view full recipe
Flourless Chocolate-Walnut Cookies
This recipe for chocolate cookies is easy to make, only requires six ingredients, and the results are fantastic! Also, they taste delicious and have a wonderful texture. And it's gluten free to boot! I still have a taste memory of the thin crackly crispy edges and shell caving into a soft, chewy fudgy brownie middle. This is a "mother" recipe by French pastry Chef Francois Payard. The adventurous have sometimes added bonus spices, pecans, or…... view full recipe
Beer Waffles with Maple Cherry Compote
Here is another additional to a month of waffle recipes! I generally use whatever local beer I happen to have on hand, most recently a stout from Five and Twenty Brewing. The original recipe called for a german lager. The overall beer flavor of the waffles is pretty subtle. For cherries, I use local sour cherries, which I can purchase frozen and pitted from Arrowhead Wine Cellars. Do note that once defrosted, the cherries deflate…... view full recipe
Gingerbread Waffles with Cream Cheese Glaze
When there is a chill in the air, somehow all those warm spices seem to taste better and make you feel warm from the inside out. That is when regular waffles just won't do, and I look in my recipe notebook for something a little bit different. These waffles are equally good in a Belgian or American style waffle maker. I don't think maple syrup is needed, but it certainly doesn't taste bad! And putting…... view full recipe
Cream Cheese Filled Pumpkin Muffins
When the nights start to turn chilly, that's when I really love to turn on the baking. And despite all the hype about pumpkin spice overload, I do really like using pumpkin in lots of things. This is my (and my guest's favorite) pumpkin muffin recipe. Yes, it has all the usual spices in it, but there is a wonderfully flavored cream cheese filling to delight and surprise you. It does has some unusual ingredients…... view full recipe
So many people have complemented me on our Buttermilk Pancakes. I have to smile a bit, because pancakes are so easy to make, and, in my opinion, taste so much better when made from scratch without the help of a mix. My Mom used to make us pancakes on the weekend, and I never even knew that you could buy a mix for them, because, the batter comes together in a snap! These are a…... view full recipe
